Artist Statement
These paintings grew out of a recent artist-in-residency at the Fundación Valparaíso in southern Spain which took place between February and March of 2006.
While I was there I became inspired by Moorish art and architecture and conceived this body of work which I call “Al-Andalus.”
The inspiration for the repeated elements in this series came to me while I was at the Alhambra looking at those beautifully intricate and complex domes as seen from the inside, looking up.
