Artist Statement

The foundation for each piece of this series is drawn from a memory of a vision experienced during meditation. Using these archetypal shapes as the starting point, the paintings begin to unfold much like a chain reaction, in which every color and shape is born out of the context of its predecessors. All of the images were built out from a central axis, creating a mirror reflection within each composition. Rather than these mirrors being mathematically exact, they are closer to the approximate symmetry found in the natural world. I regard these paintings as windows or corridors inviting the viewer to cross a threshold into another space undefined by our conventional measurements of time.
