Artist Statement
I address seclusion and confinement in my work to reconcile us with the social and political climate of our times. My works, made with a variety of mediums and from a variety of resources, are reflections of contemporary popular culture and imagery brought to geopolitical issues that affect us all, whatever our background or upbringing.
Detachment, recognition, and nostalgia surface in my work and serve as a foundation for consideration of our isolative and claustrophobic state. I depict the comforts and conveniences to which we turn in order to accept without argument—not to recognize—what we’ve been taught about reality. From this conditioning, we become divided from the tragic events that redevelop our interactions with each other.
