Artist Statement
Interweaving memory, autobiography, and history, my mixedmedia
work explores the transformative girlhood experiences that
shape the people we become and illuminates the complexities
of identity. I obsessively deconstruct images of the female body,
transforming them into an abstract tableau that represents flux
and brings up complicated notions of identity, gender, sexuality,
and psychology.
My practice—in both subject matter and studio preparation—is
defined by a unique relationship to the body. Utilizing my archive
of completed works, I source printed images of my completed
paintings to create new images through a regenerative collage
process. I recreate symbols that have been prevalent in my work
over the past five years and recontextualize them through the use
of various painting and printmaking methods.
