Artist Statement

The work I create reckons with authenticity and the performance of personality in a time of prolific, online imagemaking and sharing. The lines between the real and unreal become, at times, blurred when the internet plays a role in how we form connections with ourselves and others. My paintings utilize methods of distortion to challenge and replicate imagemaking, as well as highlight its subsequent psychological repercussions and comedic absurdities.

I use my wet paintings as a painting tool, transferring one canvas’ contents to another through monoprinting. The paint transfer process is a performative metaphor, mimicking the way we create and share images by translating them imperfectly.
