Artist Statement
Inspired by the historical tradition of allegorical painting, my
work explores how gender-related expectations are defined and
disrupted. My paintings usually portray female figures uncannily
situated in vast expanses. Very often these fictional women
engage in mysterious behaviors or act out strange performances.
At once quiet and disquieting, these scenes employ uncertainty,
tension, and ambiguous space as a way of investigating the
emptiness of socially constructed roles.
