Artist Statement
I find that the more comfortable I become with my art, the more
uncomfortable I become with myself—a sort of double entendre
when I remember that I am my own subject matter. In a way, I
am studying myself, helplessly attempting to gain a firmer
understanding of the mind and body I inhabit. By exploring the
relationship I share with myself, I hope to discover or come to see
some unknown truths about the relationships I share with others,
whether recent or past.
My work examines the intermediate phase of life I currently
occupy, and it is influenced by realizations reached throughout
the creative process. Whether I determine these understandings
to be self-proclaimed and self-imposed constraints or find some
validity and truth in them is something to be discovered at a time
yet to come—only for the cycle to begin again.
