Artist Statement
I am deeply compelled by nature and what is happening to it. My paintings come from the world of memory, observation, and imagination while capturing the life force energies in the vast essential elements of nature. Although painting is always personal, I often work thematically, taking ideas from places in nature where beauty and foreboding collide. These recent paintings address the lost stillness of place and our natural resources, specifically water, as we transport, overuse, pollute, dry up and neglect water above and below the earth’s surface.
I find that, most of all, painting engages me in the process of discovery, surprise, and ultimately, a conversation with my work, myself, and the planet.
