Artist Statement

My work emphasizes a meaningful involvement with place, particularly the resonance between people and their surroundings. I investigate tangible relationships between objects, people, and environments. For me, the best lens through which to approach this is relief sculpture. Relief concretizes the relationship of the figure to its space, because it is intrinsically physical yet flattened; both figure and ground share a continuous surface.

Broadly, I explore how environment and identity shape each other. This connection of the physical and the psychological parallels my belief in the association of process and meaning. Through contemplative working and reworking I allow for the modification of meaning. My mode of working is reflective and attentive, but not slow. It is lively and excited, but not fast.
