Artist Statement
My work indexes traces of the feminine in material culture. I examine aspects of femininity often considered sentimental, kitschy, suburban or banal, and in so doing ask what it might mean to call something a "femmy thing." While these aspects are partly celebrated, my work underscores the melancholic darkness that remains. Working primarily in graphite on paper, I aim to give such cultural detritus a kind of solidity and permanency that it lacks as source material.
