Artist Statement
Optical illusions are not only about seeing, but also about understanding. They trigger fundamental brain processes by using visually perceived images that differ from objective reality.
In my current body of work, I manipulate the tricks used in optical illusions by either weakening the illusion or disrupting it completely.
I see these illusions as a metaphor for my search for truth and meaning. I try to see and understand the world as objectively as possible through reasoned consideration, but constantly come into conflict with my subjective, unconscious judgments.
