Artist Statement
Mine is the liminal space between humor and pity. Instead of
declarations, I make suggestions; it’s not my place to tell you what
to think, after all. Really, I’m more interested in the foundational
elements of storytelling, often obscuring the coherence or
totality of a work in favor of something a little more scattered. My
paintings mimic the form of story, but withhold any meaningful
exchange of ideas. I call them impotent narratives. The structure
is compromised: we’ve reached this recognizable end, but we’re
not quite sure how.
Here: a nagging doubt and ephemeral confidence are the only
constants in my work. I am the small, pathetic everyman,
unworthy and everlasting, and this is my voice.
