Artist Statement
Painting is a process of construction. I ask, how are houses, paintings, and bodies are made? Paint conceals and covers over but also creates the illusion of an opening and space, transforming familiar boundaries into the unfamiliar.
Questions about the construction of self, boundaries of subjectivity, and the interconnection of self and environment feed my paintings. They continue to be engaged in a dialogue with the long and varied tradition of a modernist pictorial style, exploring contradictory ideas of intention and autopoiesis.
Painting is collaborative; it is an activity that must have material and an experiencing body. Painting takes a body to make and becomes a body in the making.
