Artist Statement

My recent work is a continuation of earlier paintings that dealt with color, surface quality, and organic patterns. These current works are meant to be a digitized version of the latter. I turned the organic twists and turns into right angles and parallelogram components, and assembled them into unified, symmetrical compositions.

The approach of each new painting is based mostly on reflexivity; building and reacting to the painting that preceded it. Paintings that began as repeated rectangles of color, which formed larger simple patterns, have evolved into mostly white paintings where lines of color travel throughout the painting on edges perpendicular to the surface. These lines remain in the most recent work where the shapes that were once strictly rectangular are now sequenced parallelograms anchored by a grid.
