Artist Statement

By manipulating and projecting found photographs Christopher Rose creates paintings and drawings of spontaneous gatherings, architecture, and traffic. Using bright colors and a hard edge graphic style, that reference popular culture and advertising, Rose explores the fragile nature of peaceful gatherings.

"Green Riot," and "Traffic Jam Blue" place figures in colorful fields where actions are removed from specific events. His Layered Field Series presents ordinary men and women in multiple spaces of movement and stasis. Vacillating between magnification and the microscopic, Christopher's work is about the unpredictable flows of live energy and the spaces that barely contain them.
