Artist Statement

Is ‘You’ ‘I’? Do my feelings oscillate between love and hate for ‘You’? While my body is here, my mind wanders there—so, where am I?

Encountering this overwhelming sensation, I search for a language to articulate the liminal experiences that straddle the dichotomies of self/other, love/hate, desire/repulsion, ecstasy/pain, and here/there. My painting practice explores these ambiguous territories where clarity dissolves and what remains is the unsettling, yet compelling realm of that which is abject.

When we say ‘You’ is ‘I’, we call it love. Yet, the fear of losing oneself within the beloved creates a dissonance where love collides with the anxiety of self-erasure, reflecting a primal experience of abjection. My work interrogates the blurred boundaries between the self and the other, both inside and outside, exploring the psychosexual fabric of women’s experiences. I paint romantic relationships between men and women, drawn from my own life, art history, and popular culture and marked by power imbalances. I reclaim women’s bodies and spaces, transforming them into sites of resistance and agency.
