Artist Statement
My current work exploits the properties of paint that are distinct to the medium, specifically those that allow direct, subjective, subtle, extreme, and heterogeneous results. As a path to invention, I conflate strategies and conventions from many historical painting genres. I am drawn to the idea of a painting occupying the paradoxical position of being a literally finite object that creates an ever-changing, complex experience. I generate paintings that embody the tenderness, rage, longings, and imperfections of their maker to the point of becoming a blasphemous, biased, and impossible construction: a Golem.
