Artist Statement

My practice centers on creating large-scale figurative paintings that blend oil and acrylic paint. I work from a mixture of photography and life to create final images that draw primarily from my imagination, combining random people and scenes that never existed.

My current series explores education and the classroom, inspired by my personal experiences as an educator at Houston Community College. These vibrant, expressive, and colorful paintings depict imagined students and scenes from the teacher’s perspective. They explore themes of connection, community, teamwork, and acceptance, and are juxtaposed with underlying currents of apathy, isolation, distraction, and dissociation. The works reflect the diverse and dynamic nature of contemporary education and today’s student body.
