Artist Statement
With the use of simple organic forms, I am able to consider interactions that often take place among basic organisms: attraction, repulsion, and survival. Narratives occur in which elements assemble, explore, and encounter other forms. These events reveal invisible codes, methods of organization like clustering and patterning. For instance, in a recent group of paintings entitled Swarm, I create images of “swarm theory.” A unit that may be small on its own is able to gain safety in numbers, an occurrence that allows a group of individuals to act as one.
