I am an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker utilizing autobiographical narratives as source material to create contemporary fictions. My work constructs a personal aesthetic of recuperation and salvage through recreations in paintings, films, sculptures, and performances. Exploring layered temporalities and representations of the self within archives, I re-enact stories as they are remembered. A process inherently imprecise, I ground myself in the social structures and historical context surrounding the archive, whether it’s the Salvadoran Civil War or the awkwardness of a first date.

In this balance between tragedy and pleasure, I employ humor and my alter ego to navigate the grief and absurdity of repeatedly recreating transhistorical subjects. This method allows me to understand the formal symbols in our social imaginary–what we have inherited together in our communal understanding–to queer them, or joyfully fail in queering. My work seeks to negotiate an agreement with the present moment rather than with a distant future, exploring how close one can get to reality before losing touch with it.
