Artist Statement
In an age when images are created on a computer, there is a level of craft that is paramount for me when I present my work as painting. By manipulating paint, I create images that materialize and dissolve simultaneously, giving way to an impossible photographic image. This, for me, is a metaphor for the destruction of traditional painting. The flat color passages that interrupt the painting’s surface symbolize the interchangeable images that pass cyclically through the art world. They also represent how that imagery converges with the stillness and regularity found in daily life. While searching for new pictorial solutions, I find a balancing point between representation and abstraction.
