Artist Statement

The transformative action of light compels me to paint, and my work results from what I notice. I have no romantic attachment to autobiographical, grand, or dilapidated subjects. Instead, I choose spaces where mystery and presence come from attention not prescription. Each painting is a subtle interpretation, realism exacting in inventory, yet is carefully reimagined as a painted composition. I make geometric drawings to arrive at the most distilled version of my compositions before beginning to paint. I work on-site during particular hours and weather to maintain atmospheric consistency, and the paintings can take unpredictable amounts of time to resolve.
