Artist Statement
My work arises in part out of my love of the natural landscape. I am intrigued by the challenge of making a distilled response to a particular experience outdoors where change is constant and life - vulnerable and complex - is evident in many forms.
This is where I start. The image serves as a format for exploring materials and marks, seeing what sustenance and meaning might be conveyed through them. Scale, color/temperature, space, movement and texture all resonate with our physical experience. I want the work to be felt physically by the viewer, to interest them and to connect in a kind of primal or nonverbal sense. And to let them see things in a new way.
