Artist Statement
In my paintings and drawings of vernacular architecture I try to draw out the embedded information inherent in all human-built structures that uncomfortably reflects our messy human experience. Set on a seemingly abandoned and portentous empty stage, the portraits of buildings allow one to contemplate the history of architecture, failed utopian dreams, loss of innocence, absurd humor, and unconventional beauty. In titling the work I borrow from the language of architecture to further add weight and meaning to these typically inconsequential structures.
