Artist Statement

Through painting, sculpture, and drawing I construct complex structures whose aesthetic is informed by the process I use. My paintings build the illusion of dimensionality while eradicating optical vibrations through grid patterns and symbols distributed across the picture plane. The iconography that I appropriate in my work often comes from popular culture iconography that is rooted in aggressive advertising and tattoo graphics. Recently, I have also been interested in Mesoamerican architecture and visual communication systems that exist within gang and hobo culture.
