Artist Statement
My interests as an artist are in the reciprocal exchange involved in the production of high and low cultural artifacts. The work is concerned with the import of mass-cultural items in the construction of the emotional and social identity of the individual. My pieces mine anti-heroic forms of popular imagery for repressed cultural meaning; posing questions about the projection of value onto objects. I am fascinated by the psychological and emotional impact of those things we surround ourselves with. Although the output of my projects is varied and may take the guise of sculpture, installation, or painting, my core concern is in the space where the everyday meets larger issues of value, taste, authenticity, and the construction of meaning.
