For me painting is a way to investigate the fleeting experience of a place. Sometimes that experience is influenced by the weather, sometimes by a sound, and sometimes it’s influenced in other ways that are harder to pin down.

My paintings are made after the fact rather than on site. When I get to work in the studio, I try to stay true to the impression I’ve taken from a place, but I am also very open to letting the process of painting itself be a guide.

It is my hope that in doing so the painting itself becomes more of a record of experience rather than a reproduction of the corporeal appearance of a place.
