Artist Statement
My landscapes occupy the shallow space of a movie set. Their painted, romanticized vignettes are composed of found images from stationery, collectibles, magazine ads, and newspapers. With the addition of small bits of collage, an unsettling note is introduced to suggest that all is not as well as it appears at first glance.
Though dark and monochromatic, the paintings are often embellished with glittery or opalescent glazes. I see my works as portentous messages, like greeting cards from the Addams family, that highlight the darker aspects of what we comfortably accept as normal.
