Artist Statement
Amos was my first real boss. I still pet-sit for him from time to time. This frequently involves disposing of the disemboweled gifts that his two cats leave for me. While working together we had this running joke about the five biggest mistakes he has ever made. They primarily involved missed chances with the ladies.
These pieces are from an ongoing series of non-heroic portraits depicting my male role models. For me, it is this exceedingly influential sect that I didn’t get to choose. The paintings let me explore those relationships on an intimate level. The titles are explanations for his inevitable breakups with potential girlfriends. Amos told me to go to business school and never learn how to paint houses. He has taken care of me whenever I was in a tough spot, but will not let me use his bathroom.
