Artist Statement

In my work, I use found fragments as the basis for building forms. I augment this detritus with color and then manipulate surfaces so that the resulting contrast between new and old is indistinct. This flattens the past, present, and future into a single form, visually reflecting a notion of nonlinear time. Incorporated in this effort are ideas of history, memory, and identity, as well as value and beauty. The spindly curves and rounded corners of many of the pieces act as stand-ins for uniqueness, queerness, and vulnerability—all important qualities that I seek to embody and represent.
