Artist Statement
My work explores public and personal identities within the context of the American past and the history of its representation. The use of the grid allows for the formation of implied, yet vague, narrative associations concerning memory, collective identity, and the influence of geography. I work almost exclusively from photographs that I’ve either taken myself or found, both historical and private in nature. I do not rely solely on them, however; instead, I pull from them only what is essential, distilling vital information from the excess in order to imply a specific time and place.
