Artist Statement

My paintings mine the depths of intuition, speculative fiction, and expressionism to elaborate on ideas around the complexity of the female gaze and the ongoing revelations of humanity’s struggle to control its relationship with nature. In the feminist tradition of recasting myths to empower female characters, I create otherworldly narratives, granting agency to hybrid shebeings whom I see as muses and collaborators. The theme of transformation recurs in my paintings. Creating images that can appear both mythic and futuristic, my interest lies in generating a productive tension by allowing for a nonlinear interpretation of time as an ever-shifting and overlapping present.
