Artist Statement

I paint representations of abstraction. My patterns are culled from various sources, ranging from everyday and mass produced objects to „higher‰ forms of individual pattern making, like those found in contemporary and modern painting. The brushstrokes within my work are calculated and highly rendered ˆ an „anti-gesture‰ of sorts. Rather than taking a position in a now tired debate of high vs. low, my aim is to sit within a more current position that neither negates nor celebrates design or heroic gestures but rather accepts them as equals within current visual cultural conditions in which we live everyday.
