In my current studio practice I work within the tradition of the landscape, which has often been used to express our relationship to the environment. The scenes I paint feature commonplace urban and suburban landscapes that are emptied of people yet show the heavy footprint of human presence. These liminal, in-between spaces reflect our connection with—but also alienation from—nature and our frequent isolation from each other.

The paintings are composites, sourced from my archive of images and memories. I search for places that feel, to me, a bit unsettling. Then, I modify, simplify, and collage this source material to form a digital sketch that reflects my sense of that place. My ideas evolve further as I immerse myself in paint. How much information do I let go? How can I best incorporate the emotional impact of color?

My end goal is a painting that, based on personal memory, is intimate yet still representative of a collective memory or an uneasy dream.
