Artist Statement
My drawings are accumulations of text-sized loops that suggest
maps and textiles. I work, with reductive methods, on folded
paper. My method often confronts and sometimes repudiates the
compulsive strategies of some minimal artists and the successes
of lapsed formalists. I exaggerate a single loop mark to a point
dangerously close to absurd. Through my repetitive process, I
examine dichotomies such as hand and machine, the casual and
the monumental, and monotony and meditation.
The drawings appear as the documents of a stable process—the
same motion again and again. However, the resulting surface is
marred, noisy, staccato, and inconsistent.
