Artist Statement

Since 2009, I have used vintage sheet-music covers as source material for collages. The series represented here are based on details observed in urban architecture and reflect my fascination with the visible signs of decay and change in the built environment.

By definition, collage is a process of selecting and recontextualizing. It invites contemplation of preservation and destruction, both inside and outside the studio. My work relies on the specificity of precise human effort as well as the randomness of natural forces and accidental occurrences.
