Artist Statement
The activity of painting is an exploration of meaning. My work envisions life as a journey between the fundamental mysteries of birth and death. The paintings generally evoke landscape- somewhat uncertain worlds that invite or compel exploration. Layered, illusory spaces emerge out of expressive marks and color. There is order embedded in chaos, and fragments of iconography and metaphor in the imagery. Beauty and terror, apocalypse and hope, coexist. I hope and believe that my work reflects a quest for discovery and a kind of spirituality in unfamiliar and disorienting terrain; I know that doing the work is fun.
