Artist Statement

I am fascinated by the potential strength and vulnerability of the home—qualities shared by the humans who inhabit its spaces. In this body of work I am focused on memory, loss, displacement, and survival. My current work addresses the forms and shadows that occupy our interior spaces, while approaching the odd, lighted flux of considerations that occur when one is alone in a space. I am interested in the way in which one builds a home, whether alone or with others, and the power of the urge to continue building and rebuilding no matter how many times things fall apart. My paintings aim to capture the eerie recollections of memories that are more relics than the objects and places one can actually visit.
