Artist Statement
For well over 20 years, the primary focus of my work has been drawing Florida landscapes in pencil. I'm drawn to the lush tropical plants, abundant sunshine and dramatic weather changes. However, I recently completed several drawings of dead birds. I came upon several of them by accident at about the same time but on different occasions and felt a strong desire to draw them. I was also attracted to the idea of drawing something that most people find repulsive. I wanted the work to be detailed to draw the viewer in to take a second look and they would then see what I saw which were heavenly creatures beautiful and serene in their silence.
