Artist Statement

In my work, painting presents its own concept to the viewer. The painting itself is the concept; the paintings do not function as a description of an idea. The work has an immediate tangible presence that the viewer may experience on a physical and visual level before the conceptual. It is important that the painting is an object; it is a thing that the viewer looks at, not necessarily through or into. I ask the viewer to accept verbal language as secondary to seeing, as an aid to perceiving the visual experience.
