Artist Statement
Painting is a form of writing to me. I view a group of paintings as text. I join ideas together with information and explore meanings through association. I combine images to make new information as if the images were words. The goal is to surface the remote elements of each painting as if they were a chapter in a larger text; a way of mapping together information to create another way of seeing the moment.
Painting is a way for me to memorialize what I have found and form a text anchored around a larger idea; the idea that what we see is not always considered or connected to what we feel. If we go further into what we see, we create new moments and new glossaries. Painting is a way for me to recover thought and to create a memory of new things. My paintings are a disclosure of personal events and histories.
