Artist Statement
I consider my work to be an excavation of society, humanity, and
“thinginess,” to use critical theorist Bill Brown’s term. I’m not
interested in a coffee cup, rather the stain that is left behind. It
reveals a past, a present, and an event. The context of this event
is explored through a series of “jump cuts.” A jump cut is like
cutting a hole in a magazine. It reveals another strange, but often
beautiful, image unrelated to the image above it. The interaction
between the two layers creates a dialogue between natural
objects and artificial realms.
