Artist Statement
I want to achieve paintings pure in design, color, and lighting. Each stage of my work is a process of eliminating superfluous information and retaining the essential. I choose specific items like origami and well designed toys because they are art forms that have gone through this process and effect these design elements on their own. Creating visual order can be complex, like the intricate folds of origami. I look for obvious relationships in colors, patterns, and shapes. Each subject relates in an intelligible way to everything else included in the composition. My exiguous use of light follows suit by using one bold source to emphasize the form. I keep my color clean and separate. My work is elaborate, and yet straightforward. By taking out all the noise, I hope to cause a resounding visual impact, and perhaps a smile.
