Artist Statement

My works on paper echo an urban cacophony where pattern and regiment have gone amok. Inspired by textiles, Utopian idealism and a ‘60s pop sensibility, the obviousness towards the hand-made emphasizes human touch and the tactile world. Creating several different bodies of work simultaneously in various mediums, the underlying theme of potential and inertia have consistently played an important role in my working process. In my canvas works, a sense of confinement to the rectangle in dealing with the grid and space is approached with different strategies, and often seeks to ask what is a painting? At the end of the day, I am not interested in making the same thing over and over again. The element of surprise and discovery is what keeps me going.
