Artist Statement
For the past few years I have been collecting oral histories,
memories, and imagery as a way of searching for connectivity.
This set of recent paintings reference my firsthand experience of
immigrating as well as my family’s long and complicated history
with displacement. The paintings were put together much like a
game of telephone, transmitted through generations, stretched
and skewed by family members and friends, rendering them
fragmented but crystallized.
Drawing parallel narratives between the past and the present, my
work focuses on the fragility that exists within our relationships
and the dialogue surrounding a new-found home. I am intrigued
by the codependency we develop, and fascinated by the nuanced
emotions of longing and separation. My paintings, much like
journal entries, relate to one another and thread together as
segments of the same account.
