Artist Statement
My work investigates the ideas of cultural memory and interpretation through oral history. This investigation serves as a constant documentary process of places I have traveled. Regardless of being domestic or foreign, the travel record serves as project depicting a larger history. I seek landscapes with historical presence and utilize the experience of that place as a means to record both the actual and interpersonal landscape. I arrive at this history by forging both factual and fictional information, the old or new, and fragments that are collected, given, or found. The work becomes a record, in time, similar to the tradition of the illuminated manuscript or the postcard.
