Artist Statement

My work addresses the diminishing importance of physical communication between individuals. The micro-universes created by social networking and mobile devices spread a user’s attention thin, but simultaneously inflate a user’s ego by the large numbers of people he or she can instantly access. In this body of work there are no intimate relationships. Quality time is discarded in search of other stimuli, whether arbitrary Internet information, a status posting, or shallow abbreviated text exchanges. The titles of each work reinforce the fact that social applications and new media slang serve as surrogates for personal interaction in contemporary communications.
