Artist Statement
Vinyl and stone; rubber and steel; high and low chroma. Each
series relies on its constituent parts and associative installation
techniques to nurture states of levity and weight. Visually distinct
and operating within the confines of depiction of a living form
and its absence, every work is focused on relationships between
process, medium, and the transmutation of familiar objects and
materials.
My objects exist between loving homage and subtle, persistent
revolt. Humor plays dead, like a defense mechanism. The
materials I choose are charged by day-to-day experiences: the
swimming pools that I’ve swam, the balloons that I’ve inflated,
and the masks that are worn indicate the presence of a body
through function, replication, and the sensation of touch.
It’s built to win and built to crash.
