Artist Statement
I am trying, playfully, to somehow expose the essence of our existence, or at least some crucial aspect of understanding the human predicament. With this foundational starting point, I hope to come to terms with the primitive inquiry for long term and sustaining fulfillment. I approach this built-in desire with spiritual honesty.
Without over-intellectualizing my process, I craft intricate, detailed scenes where various elements can come together and interact amidst a grander narrative. Using buildings, walls, and other flat surfaces, I create alternate dimensions; images that belong to a different painting, but have nevertheless been merged into a single work. These alternate dimensions, as well as other nuances, end up competing for our attention and collectively become something else. It is a humorous, yet foreboding, exploration into what gives life meaning.
