Artist Statement
This work originates from photographs documenting the aftermath of hurricanes. In my work, I fragment objects and spaces from the photos: pieces of smashed buildings, fallen trees, breaking waves, wrecked cars. Just as the photos depict destruction, the creative process for me becomes destructive. To express the uncertainty involved with forces of nature, I do not look at the surface when making marks. The process allows me to create unexpected results - offering the potential for becoming lost and making discovery.
